The 57th Australian Latvian Arts Festival From Riga to Adelaide, an exhibition featuring over 20 artists, photographers and artisans.
Of the artists represented, some were born overseas and came to Australia after World War 2 in the late 1940s and subsequent decades, while others were born in Australia to parents who migrated here. This is an especially important year in Latvian history; it marks the 100th year of the declaration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia. It also marks 70 years of Latvian migration to Adelaide.
A wide range of work will be on display, from artists working all over Australia. There will be work that has been made both here and in Latvia using traditional Latvian artisanal techniques and work with Latvian themes and imagery, as well as contemporary works.
The exhibition will be a wonderful snap-shop of artists of Latvian heritage working in Australia today and a visual expression of the bond they feel with this heritage.
Some of the exhibition works will be available for purchase.
The festival has something for all ages. For information about the festival program events, times and tickets, please visit the official 57th Australian Latvian Arts Festival website
