Terrazzo, Italian for ‘terraces’, is the name given to a very beautiful creative floor material. Terrazzo was first created several centuries ago by Venetian craftsmen who found a use for discarded marble remnants, placing them next to one another in a mortar base. Once the base was dry, they rubbed the surface with stones to create a polished look.
Often colourful, geometric and with patterns and stars included, terrazzo decorated many a front veranda and bathroom in South Australia.
Come and try your hand at recreating the patterns of terrazzo. Using colourful paper, scissors and glue, make your own terrazzo card.
