Family, friends, and supporters of the artist are all welcome to join us for an afternoon tea with Aunty Muriel on Saturday 27th October 2-4pm.
In celebration of living South Australian artist Muriel Van Der Byl AM, whose work has been incorporated into the new design of the Australian $50 note, the Migration Museum is hosting a pop-up exhibition of the artist’s silk paintings and collected ephemera.
The new $50 banknote features David Unaipon, an inventor and Australia’s first published Aboriginal author, and Edith Cowan, the first female member of an Australian parliament. Muriel Van Der Byl’s painting of miwi and navel cord exchange, included in the new design, are Ngarrindjeri cultural practices written about by Uniapon.
The exhibition continues to Sunday 4th November.
