Today, many Afghans from different ethnic groups who live in South Australia continue to practice their religion and celebrate their cultural events by incorporating traditional arts and crafts.
Visit the museum to explore traditional arts and crafts handmade by Afghan women and learn about the significance of cultural objects within the Afghan-Australian communities. The objects highlighted in the exhibition include handmade jewelleries, traditional handmade clothing and gowns, artworks and other outfits made by Afghan women. In addition, the exhibition includes a spotlight on the history of Afghan cameleers who came to Australia in the 1860s to provide a mode of transport suited to the harsh desert conditions of inland Australia.
Handmade – Afghan Women Traditional Arts and Crafts is presented by the Afghan Australian Women Association to highlight the cultural diversity of Afghani ethnic groups.
