Children workshop: Make a mosaic coaster or suncatcher

Make a coaster or a hanging ornament and apply mosaic techniques to beautify your place (Children 10 to 16 years old).

Hospitality is the cornerstone of social life in Arabic culture. Both the host and the guest put an extra effort to reflect attention and esteem when seeing each other. In this session, your child/children will engage in a creative experience to design a coaster or a suncatcher to use in the space where you receive visitors. They will apply mosaic techniques with guidance by Sculpture and Mosaic artist Kristin Wohlers. Also, they will be encouraged and supported to use Arabic words, letters, and ornaments in their design with the help of Arabic speaking volunteers.

This workshop is hosted by the Arabic Language and Culture Association of SA (ALCASA) and the History Trust of South Australia’s Migration Museum, and is in conjunction with the Ahlan wa sahlan exhibition.

The workshop is supported by a grant from Multicultural Affairs, Department of the Premier and Cabinet.

The workshop is designed for children 10 to 16 years old.
