Australia’s Local Hero Amar Singh

In 2015 Amar Singh founded the charity Turbans 4 Australia to provide support for everyday Australians, tackle racism and to build stronger multicultural communities. Having experienced racial slurs and insults first hand since his arrival in New South Wales in 1998 from India as a 15 year old boy, Amar set about to build a stronger more resilient Australia through faith, kindness and equality. Acknowledging his tremendous work in breaking down racial barriers and providing support to those in need through Turbans 4 Australia, Amar was named Australian of the Year Local Hero in 2023.
