Welcome back to the Migration Museum

The History Trust of South Australia’s Migration Museum is committed to keeping our visitors, our people and our volunteers safe.

Our visitors’ safety has always been our top priority. To do this we have implemented a number of procedures and have changed some opening practices. These changes will ensure that we are aligned with state and federal government guidelines and that the health and safety our visitors, visitor engagement teams, volunteers and behind-the-scenes teams remain our priority.

COVID-19 resources in other languages can be found at the Australian Government Department of Health, or download the MyAusCOVID language app.

How we are keeping you safe

Guided by expert health advice and in accordance with Australian state and federal government recommendations and requirements, we have developed a COVIDSafe Plan that is unique to the Migration Museum. This plan is available to view on request and key initiatives include:

  • Increased cleaning with special attention to frequent touch points
  • Development of recommended routes through the museum to assist with flow
  • Establishment of maximum visitor capacity for our galleries
  • Installation of numerous hygiene stations providing access to hand sanitiser.

How you can help us

  • If you have cold or flu symptoms seek testing and stay home until you are well
  • Wash your hands often and make use of the hand sanitiser stations located throughout the museum
  • Observe social distancing and maximum gallery capacities at all times
  • Help keep your family and community safe by downloading the Australian Government COVIDSafe app.

Contact details

We have been able to reopen our museum under the SA Government’s Emergency Management Direction for Public Activities. As a part of that Direction we are required to keep a record of the name and contact details of all visitors to the museum along with the date and time of their visit. This information is kept confidentially and, should we be notified of a possible COVID-19 exposure in the Museum, the records will be used by health authorities for contact tracing purposes. The information we collect is not allowed to be used for any purpose other than contact tracing. Under the Emergency Management Direction you can refuse to provide your name and/or contact details, in which case we will record the time and date of you and your group’s visit only.

During your visit

Please maintain social distancing

We ask that you observe social distancing requirements and maintain a minimum distance of 2 metres between you and others.

Increased cleaning program

We have increased our cleaning program across our museum, particularly in high-touch areas or displays.

Maximum capacity

We will continue to comply with government regulations for the maximum number of people allowed within our museums and within individual rooms and galleries, and this may change over time. We ask you to observe the indicated maximum capacity of a space at all times.

Hygiene stations

We have installed hygiene stations around our museum for your use, particularly in areas with higher touch points. We encourage you to use these at any time.

Suggested route

We have provided a suggested path through our museum to maintain the required social distancing. Please observe this route if possible.

Our visitor engagement teams have been trained to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for our visitors. Please speak to them if you have any concerns or questions.

Hygienic practices

We ask that you continue to practice safe hygiene by washing hands thoroughly, using hand sanitiser where possible and please do not visit our museum if you are unwell.

COVIDSafe app

Please keep your family and community safe by downloading the Australian Government’s COVIDSafe app.
